How to prepare for your lab test

Before coming in for a test at Dominican Hospital's laboratory, your physician will probably have given you instructions on how to prepare for it. Listed here are some of the most common laboratory tests, and the patient instructions typically given by physicians. Please contact your physician if you're not sure about how to pre
pare for your labs.

Please note: Glucose and iron tests and lipid panels should be performed after an 8- to 14-hour fast. Ingestion of any food or beverage except water should be avoided during the fast. Fecal occult blood and VMA tests require dietary restrictions.
