Collection instructions for semen analysis
Obtain a sterile container from either the laboratory or your physician.
Abstain from ejaculating (or intercourse) for three days prior to collection the sample. This is essential for accurate results.
Ejaculate directly into the container provided. After collection, the sample should be kept at body temperature. This may be accomplished by holding the container firmly in hand, or placing it next to the body in other locations such as under the belt or underarm. Mark the container with the time of collection and your name and bring the sample into the laboratory within 30 minutes. Samples that are more than 60 minutes old cannot be accepted.
Samples must be brought into the lab between 8 and 10 a.m., Monday through Friday only. You will need to register at the outpatient registration desk the day you bring in the sample to the lab, but please bring the sample to the lab FIRST. Then proceed to the registration desk to submit your insurance information.
