Surgical team brings latest in techniques and procedures

Santa Cruz County heart patients who require complex cardiac surgeries do not need to travel for treatment, since a team of esteemed surgeons serve Dominican Hospital’s Cardiac Surgery program.

Surindra Mitruka, MD, heads an expert panel of cardiac surgeons from the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. Together, they provide Dominican Hospital with coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Open-heart surgery is not new to Dominican Hospital. Cardiac surgeons have been operating on patients at Dominican Hospital since 1989.

Along with repairing aortic dissections, the team of surgeons can perform valve repairs, aortic root replacements, aneurysm repairs, off pump coronary bypass surgery, and other complicated procedures. Until their arrival, patients requiring those surgeries had to travel out of the area for treatment.
