The Joys and Challenges of Breastfeeding

Drop-in support group provides moms and babies an opportunity at no charge to meet and talk about the joys and challenges of breastfeeding. Health experts today would suggest that the single best thing you can do for your newborn is to follow your most basic and natural instincts--and breastfeed for at least a year.

The nutritional and immune system benefits for breastfed babies are immense. Bonding with the newborn flows easily with breastfeeding, and there might be benefits later in life for the breastfeeding mom, such as a reduced risk for breast cancer.

Dominican Hospital Family Birthing Center has had an international board certified lactation consultant on staff for years. The consultant visits new parents in the Birthing Center and is available for outpatient consultation, if requested. She also supervises sales and rentals of breastfeeding supplies, such as nursing bras, pumps, slings and pillows.

The support group, held weekly in Dominican's Education Center, is open to any breastfeeding moms and their babies on a drop-in basis. Call (831) 462-7862.
